Brookdale hosted an invitation only Dementia Care education day featuring one of America’s leading educators on Dementia, Teepa Snow.
The topic was “How to communicate when someone has dementia.” Guardian Pharmacy Atlanta was in attendance at this premier event.
Teepa Snow, an occupational therapist and international expert on dementia care, led an interactive education session for attendees that included brain functioning at various stages of dementia, and how families and health care professionals can interpret the dementia patient’s voice, words, phrases, and emotions to effectively communicate with them.
All of this is part of Teepa’s “Positive Approach to Care”, and the techniques are easy to learn, and extremely helpful when working with people with dementia. She taught attendees different techniques to encourage cooperation at the different stages of dementia, and also how to interpret the needs of a patient that cannot communicate with words.
Guardian Pharmacy Atlanta was very thankful to be included for this great educational session.
